A California boy if there ever was one, Steve Pate was born in Ventura and earned All-America Honors at UCLA. Pate won six PGA events in his long, successful Tour career and competed for the 1991 and 1999 US Ryder Cup squads. His first career win came at the Southwest Golf Classic in 1987 and he recorded two victories during the 1988 season. Pate was named the Tour’s comeback player of the year in 1999, when he earned over $1.75 million, finished runner-up at two events and recorded five top-10 results.
